Hi!

Since me and my family lived for 4 months on the Island, when we left,I said to my Husband,I
hope that Manitoulin will stay like it is,we don't want it to become a second Toronto, please, leave it
clean as is,its a very relaxing place live in, and confortable.

I still dream and wish after 9 years to visit again. There is good people on Manitoulin.

I think a good many people share your concern about keeping the Island the way it is.

In the beginning of the last century (1900) the island's population was 10,000. Today The population is 13,000. In 108 years we've grown by 3,000.

At Manitoulin Living we believe some sustainable growth is necessary, not only to provide jobs now, but in the foreseeable future for our children.

Nobody wants to see the island overrun. Quite frankly, it's quite unlikely to happen. There is too much distance between us and 8 million people in southern Ontario.

As I mentioned in another board, to be honest, I'm not familiar with any of the Realtors, etc. here on the Island offering rent to own properties but I would check our properties and housing page (http://www.manitoulinliving.com/properties_housing.htm) and contact them directly to see what's available.

There's always the possibility that private owners may offer something but for that you'd have to check our local paper (The Expositor: http://www.manitoulin.ca) to see what was available. They have an online classified section.

Good Luck.  Smiley

The relaxed nature of the island is great when you want to retreat, but retreating isn't always the best way to live. I'm finding that we could really use more contractors on the island for plumbing, electrical and heating system maintenance work.  Consumers can't really enjoy a relaxing lifestyle when they need work done on their homes and have a difficult time getting professional contractors to show up.
Although, in all fairness, I understand that retiring contractors all over Ontario are not being replaced. We're encouraging young people to go to college and university where they decide to use their education in white collar jobs and fewer healthy candidates are opting for the more physically demanding work of these building professions.

I can't speak specifically to that, but I do know that where the real need is: contractors, plumbers, electricians, drywallers etc. A good one is like gold on the island.

As the Population grows, the need for mechanics etc. will increase with it.

I think the more building professionals realize the opportunities that await them here, the less of a problem this will be in the near future. Marketing strategies for the island need to include making contractors etc. aware that while the shortage of skilled professionals exisits everywhere, the lifestyle benefits of living here are overwhelmingly positive.

Hi Manitoulin Poet

My husband is an electrician and are coming over to sit Certificate of Qualification exam in July in Sudbury, do you know of any Employers on the Island that are looking for qualified and reliable electricians.

We are from the UK and my husband has been a qualified electrician for approx 17 years and has run his own business for approx 12 years.

We already have family on the Island (2nd cousins).  Would hopefully like to set some interviews up while we are over so if you know of anyone could you please let us know, would greatly appreciate it Smiley
