When you look at an Ontario road map, Manitoulin Island looks pretty small, but don’t be fooled. Even if you spend several days cycling on this island, you would be hard pressed to see everything.
Manitoulin Island's picturesque back roads and highways are both popular with cyclists.
Vehicle traffic is generally light but please watch out for unique features like logging trucks, deer, other wildlife, slow-moving vehicles and the occasional cattle drive.

As a recent visitor on Manitoulin Island I was very surprized by the amount of "good: roads for road cycling, I had made a ride from Providence Bay to Mindamoya, thru Tehkummah and back to Prov, It was approximately a 40 mile loop. The roads are pretty good, not many potholes. Depending on the way your traveling E to W or reverse, you will have about a 5 to 10 mph headwind--tailwind. Very little traffic to speak of. And those vehicles that I  did see were courtious and give me plenty of room. There are some short steep grades that will make you work a little, OK a little harder for us older guys. There are a couple places to stop if you feel the need. The stores close early there so I wouldnt wait to long. The scenery was nice, and the people are friendly. I will definately go back again,,  Ride Safe:
