Manitoulin Islanders enjoy the best of health care services. There are two hospitals (each with about 15 acute care beds), two emergency wards, and several community clinics staffed by well-trained professionals.  Best of all, we are ranked #1 in the province in a study released in the summer of 2005  for having the most doctors per person! There are eighteen practicing doctors on the Island. 

Medical Specialists take regular appointments at our specialist clinics, and the latest teleconferencing technology is also available in both hospitals, so there is two convenient ways to have consultations with specialists without having to travel to a larger centre.

There are five dentists conveniently located across the Island and a denturist based in Little Current.  The Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) transportation service aids those in need in getting to health care appointments.  You’re just a 9-1-1 call away from ambulance service to either Island hospital, including emergency helicopter transfers to Sudbury or Toronto when necessary.
